Humble Beginnings...

Like more than a few good things in life, my whisky passion started with a dram, a dram of whisky on my wedding day. It was nothing fancy mind, just an aptly named “Founders Reserve”.  From there I dived deep into the whisky ocean, and went - like a lot of you I imagine - on a wonderful journey of discovery.  A journey not just of taste, places, and special moments in time...but of whisky people and their stories.

Whisky is a wonderful medicine. When treated with respect, it brings people together, and encourages community, sharing and enjoyment.  Whisky stimulates creativity and its appreciation. It can open up the heart and stir the soul.

From just the three simple ingredients of barley, water, and yeast, and then through a romantic industrial - or even alchemical process - beautiful spirit emerges to be filled into casks, and rests there for time and wood to work their magic.  Later, sometimes much later, design & bottling occurs. Only then comes the special moment for us all to taste and discover this water of life.

East Coast Whisky represents the continuation of this journey, into sharing with you what whisky is out there, the experiences and stories it brings, and the people it meets along its way.

There will be blogging, tastings, whisky meals, festivals, cask bottling, and more as we journey to maturation.

Our focus is coastal and local, as myself and the team are based in East Lothian and Edinburgh, Scotland. Yet we are open to all who form this global whisk(e)y community, near and far.

So welcome, pour yourself a #dramotheday and enjoy!!!

A stunning SOLD OUT 10 dram line-up from another special closed distillery, the perfect way to celebrate Summer!!

Coleburn was founded in 1897 and closed in 1985. It has a lovely sweet and fruity Speyside style, which is well worth discovering and celebrating. A 10 dram Coleburn vertical tasting has never been attempted before online, so this nicely follows on from the Brora. Convalmore, Millburn, and Glenlochy ones, that we have already enjoyed!!

The Drams

Behold the first five Coleburn drams in our selection, including the stupendous 38 year old Gordon & Macphail 1981 Private Collection bottling (which was the first bottling in the Private Collection series).

Here is the only official Coleburn release, the 21 Rare Malts bottling. Also the Coleburn 1972 G&M Rare Old, which is a personal favourite, and then the 1967 Douglas Laing bottling too!!

The Details

The tasting will be held on ZOOM, from 7.30-10pm GMT on Wednesday 14th September (If you can’t make that time, a recording will be available afterwards).

The tasting is informative, yet informal, with everyone able to join in, and share their whisky enthusiasm rather than their ego’s!!

The 15ml drams will be mailed to you, 1st class signed for (in a padded box) at least a week before the tasting. International shipping is available upon request. You will also receive some tasting notes, the running order, and the Zoom link in the days before the event.

There are two prices for this event. Either pay £195 and get 9 drams (apart from the ultra rare 1981 Private Collection 38 yr old Coleburn), or it is £245 for the complete set.

NB the price reflects the cost of the bottles & packaging, and not what you would pay in a bar!!

Please pay: https://www.paypal.me/ecwhisky including your name, address, & COLEBURN in the notes (Please use friends and family if possible).

You can also pay by bank transfer, please contact me for the details.

If this is your first East Coast Whisky tasting, please also email your name, address, & contact telephone number to dram@eastcoastwhisky.com

There are now just 0 places left for this special one-off tasting, so move fast if you want to join us!

(Pre-sale occurs through the East Coast Whisky Clan WhatsApp Group, email if you would like to join!!)

I've been putting this tasting together for a while now, and Im really happy to be able to share the 1981 Private Collection bottle with you, it is very special. I think this tasting will be as memorable as the other closed distillery tastings we have hosted in the last few months. Hope to see you there!!

I am very happy to present the next East Coast Whisky live event, at the Links House in Dornoch on Saturday 8th October. This special evening is part of our tour to the region, which includes a day at Brora distillery and a visit to the Dornoch Distillery.

The evening will comprise a special locally sourced 6 course tasting dinner, a welcome cocktail and a tasting of the following 10 drams, all distilled in the 1960's. The food is amazing, I attended a Brora/Clynelish dinner here, and was just blown away!!

This event is for tour members, however there are a few tasting sets available to East Coast Whisky Clan members who are unable to travel this time.

The Drams

Wow!! All distilled almost 60 years ago!!

Red Label for the Cocktail!! Glenugie 1968, Craigellachie 1962, Balblair 1966, Benrinnes 1963, Macduff 1965

Benrinnes 1968, Glentauchers 1965, Ardmore 1968, Dallas Dhu 1962, Glen Grant 1964

For those unable to attend there are just 10, 10 dram packs (15ml) available of the same or similar whiskies, please contact me directly for details. Remember you have to be a clan member to get access for this, so sign up if you are not (to our WhatsApp group).

Needless to say I am really looking forward to this magical evening, and have had a lot of fun collecting these whiskies for you.

Time to celebrate one of my favourite distilleries, Glen Garioch. Hailing from Old Meldrum in the East Highland Region, I particularly enjoy its previously lightly peated style. I have so many great bottles to share with you, that rather than a 22 dram tasting, here are the first 11!!

The DRAMS

Glen Garioch 10 - Eighties Bottling!!

1988 Glen Garioch 19 SMWS 19.43 - A wee cracker!!

1989 Glen Garioch 23 Jack Weiber's Passenger Liners Series - Rare & interesting.

1991 Glen Garioch 23 Sansibar - Yum!!

1989 Glen Garioch 25 The Whisky Agency

1991 Glen Garioch 27 Càrn Mòr

1990 Glen Garioch 30 Càrn Mòr

1986 Glen Garioch 35 Douglas Laing

1978 Glen Garioch 33 for Milroy's

1978 Glen Garioch 40 Hand Filled

Glen Garioch 1971 for ODDBINS

...All of these are solid, some are stellar (and this is only part 1!!)
