Humble Beginnings...

Like more than a few good things in life, my whisky passion started with a dram, a dram of whisky on my wedding day. It was nothing fancy mind, just an aptly named “Founders Reserve”.  From there I dived deep into the whisky ocean, and went - like a lot of you I imagine - on a wonderful journey of discovery.  A journey not just of taste, places, and special moments in time...but of whisky people and their stories.

Whisky is a wonderful medicine. When treated with respect, it brings people together, and encourages community, sharing and enjoyment.  Whisky stimulates creativity and its appreciation. It can open up the heart and stir the soul.

From just the three simple ingredients of barley, water, and yeast, and then through a romantic industrial - or even alchemical process - beautiful spirit emerges to be filled into casks, and rests there for time and wood to work their magic.  Later, sometimes much later, design & bottling occurs. Only then comes the special moment for us all to taste and discover this water of life.

East Coast Whisky represents the continuation of this journey, into sharing with you what whisky is out there, the experiences and stories it brings, and the people it meets along its way.

There will be blogging, tastings, whisky meals, festivals, cask bottling, and more as we journey to maturation.

Our focus is coastal and local, as myself and the team are based in East Lothian and Edinburgh, Scotland. Yet we are open to all who form this global whisk(e)y community, near and far.

So welcome, pour yourself a #dramotheday and enjoy!!!

I can't quite believe another year of amazing whisky tasting and trips is almost over!! To celebrate everything we've enjoyed I've picked a fine selection of drams from some of the distilleries we have featured this year, or indeed visited!! You will not be disappointed.

The DRAMS

It's time to bring the JURA back, this time a very rare peated 1989. Then our customary dram #2 weirdness, featuring the excellent 2022 FLAMING HEART (purchased in Pitlochry on our Brora trip!). Next up is a wonderful 25yo GLEN GARIOCH, a limited club bottling similar to our East Coast Whisky one!! Some Rare Malts never goes amiss, and neither does the distillery of the Swan, LINKWOOD 26 (somewhere we may visit next year!). The distillery only BALVENIE 21, super delcious, and what a great tasting that was.

Things can only get better, well hopefully, but either way MORTLACH 36 & DALLAS DHU 31 should sort us all right out! Followed by two more closed distilleries, GLENLOCHY 14 & CONVALMORE 28. Finally the cherry on the cake....it has to be BRORA 2003, as it really has been a Brora year with the worlds first online partnership tasting AND that magnificent distillery group visit!! Now what does 2023 hold in store? We will just have to wait and see!!

The DETAILS

The tasting will be held on ZOOM, from 7.30-10pm GMT on Friday 16th December & Friday 6th January (If you can’t make these times, a recording will be available afterwards).

The tasting is informative, yet also informal, with everyone able to join in, and to share their whisky enthusiasm rather than their ego’s!!

The 15ml drams will be mailed to you, 1st class signed for (in a padded box) at least a week before the tasting. International shipping is available upon request. You will also receive some tasting clues, the running order, and the Zoom link in the days before the evening.

This full tasting costs £210 inc (UK) p&p. You can opt to subtract the Brora 2003 and then the set is £150 inc.

For international shipping please email or WhatsApp me to organise.

Places are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Please pay: https://www.paypal.me/ecwhisky including your name, address, & Festive 22 in the notes (Please use friends and family if possible).

I'm really looking forward to sharing some beautiful celebratory drams with you. It's been quite the year for all of us, in every aspect of life, so it's really great to come together as part of this East Coast Whisky community!!

Cheers,

Frederick

We had such a great visit to Cragganmore recently, it is a special old fashioned craft distillery, and I cannot wait to go on this tasting adventure with you.

The core set is £280 this gets you seven drams, you can then also add in any combination, the TALISKER 1957 21 Cadenhead for £65, the TALISKER 1979 Prima & Ultima for £80, and/or the TALISKER 44 for £80.

Alternatively a full set is £495, this price reflects the cost of these legendary unicorn bottles & postage/packaging & preparing the tasting, and is far less than you would pay for these drams in a bar!!

Apart from the odd Gordon & Macphail, this is as good as it gets for one of the greatest distilleries on the planet, I wager such an opportunity will not come your way again!! I cannot wait! We started 2022 with the Brora vertical and now we are seeing it out with this.
