Humble Beginnings...

Like more than a few good things in life, my whisky passion started with a dram, a dram of whisky on my wedding day. It was nothing fancy mind, just an aptly named “Founders Reserve”.  From there I dived deep into the whisky ocean, and went - like a lot of you I imagine - on a wonderful journey of discovery.  A journey not just of taste, places, and special moments in time...but of whisky people and their stories.

Whisky is a wonderful medicine. When treated with respect, it brings people together, and encourages community, sharing and enjoyment.  Whisky stimulates creativity and its appreciation. It can open up the heart and stir the soul. 

 

From just the three simple ingredients of barley, water, and yeast, and then through a romantic industrial - or even alchemical process - beautiful spirit emerges to be filled into casks, and rests there for time and wood to work their magic.  Later, sometimes much later, design & bottling occurs. Only then comes the special moment for us all to taste and discover this water of life.  

East Coast Whisky represents the continuation of this journey, into sharing with you what whisky is out there, the experiences and stories it brings, and the people it meets along its way.

There will be blogging, tastings, whisky meals, festivals, cask bottling, and more as we journey to maturation.

Our focus is coastal and local, as myself and the team are based in East Lothian and Edinburgh, Scotland. Yet we are open to all who form this global whisk(e)y community, near and far.

East Coast Whisky is happy to be teaming up with The Cheese Lady, Haddington, to present a spectacular evening of delicious cheeses and some fine whisky to go with them. This is the follow up to a fun live event we co-hosted a couple of years ago, only this time we will all meet online!!


The Whiskies (chosen with Cheese in mind!!)

Mortlach 17 from Hidden Spirits Italy. A delicious Mortlach from a couple of years back, the perfect way to start the evening.


Glenburgie 22 from The Single Malts of Scotland. This has just been released, and continues our exploration of lesser know Speysiders. It is deserving of the plaudits it has been gaining.


The Glenrothes 24, casked in ex-Zinfandel, brings the best of both worlds. I've been keeping this for such an evening.


GlenDronach 12. Bringing the sherry influence now, this is a perfect wee dram from a Pedro Ximenez Puncheon.


Tomatin Distillery Exclusive. Oloroso casked, this will blow your mind, especially when paired with cheese!!


Clynelish 9, SMWS 26.166. Lightly Peated Clynelish is a rare beast, and as this has also just been released, will not have featured in an online Whisky & Cheese tasting before!!!


BIG PEAT 25, Gold Edition, Douglas Laing. Islay Blended Malt Whisky, is a sumptuous way to see out such an evening as this!!

You will have to attend to discover what these are. However you will taste 5 of them, and they will also come with accompaniments!


The Details


The evening will run from 7 - 9.30pm, on Thursday 20th May, on Zoom. This can be recorded if you can’t make that date. Svetlana will introduce the cheeses, and I will the whiskies. There will be time for community and chat too, particularly at the end.

The tasting costs £110 including p&p. For this you will receive a whisky dram box (7*20ml samples), and a lovely cheese box, these will each be sent to you separately.

Glen Ord Artisan NAS - easy drinking distillery exclusive.

Aultmore 21 - a delicious discovery from Cadenheads.

Aberfeldy 17 - hand filled at the distillery 3 yrs ago, special Highland gold.

Blair Athol 21 - another Highland cracker from A.D. Rattray.

Longmorn 23 - a rare rum casked Longmorn from the devils of Campbeltown!

Glen Garioch 25 - a personal favourite from Cadenhead’s 175th anniversary.

Highland Park 21 - XOP & a beautiful prelude to a special whisky vertical for later this year.

Ardmore 21 - Gordon & Macphail fine version of this Highland peated favourite.

Bowmore 23 - Lady of the Glen, do it again!!


The tasting costs £85 all inclusive (DPD to Europe is a bit more, available upon request).

Another month, another vertical whisky tasting!! This time tracing the delights of Balblair distillery, as far back as 1966.


I love this Highland gem, and can’t wait to share it with you!! Some of these bottles are one off’s and/or very rare, so this will be another very special evening.
